Self-Sustainable IoT-Based Remote Sensing Powered by Energy Harvesting Using Stacked Piezoelectric Transducer and Thermoelectric Generator

We propose a self-powered remote multi-sensing system for traffic sensing which is powered by the collective energy harvested from mechanical vibration of road caused passing vehicles and temperature gradient between asphalt soil underneath. A stacked piezoelectric transducer converts vibrations into electrical thermoelectric generator harvests thermal gradient. Electrical signals generators are converted usable DC power to recharge battery using AC-DC DC-DC converters working simultaneously. The comprises an embedded with microcontroller that acquires data sensors sends sensory IoT transceiver transmits as RF packets ethernet gateway. gateway Internet Protocol (IP) them server. Laboratory road-testing results showed over 98% accuracy functioning solely alternative sources. successful maximum transmission distance obtained IoT, was approximately 1 mile, considerable achieved in urban environment.
